Why Sponsor a Physical Therapist?

Sponsoring a physical therapist

Why should I sponsor Physical Therapists?

There is a nationwide shortage of workers in the field of Physical Therapy. According to a recent study (Snohomish County, 2005), graduates from Physical Therapy training programs are insufficient to meet national workforce needs. Hospitals and clinics are challenged by the salaries being demanded by Physical Therapists, primarily because of low reimbursement rates, regulations, demand versus supply of graduates and increased student loans incurred from new educational requirements. Right now, we can see an increased number of contract employees and an increased number of months the Physical Therapist position stays open (usually 5-7 months).

The cost to fill just one position can be more than eight thousand dollars ($8000). Depending on the size of your ad and the number of days you run it, ad costs will run at least $500.00. Add $50.00 to $100.00 if you choose to advertise online. It costs at least $500.00 to have a staff person review resumes for screening, schedule interviews, and coordinate background checks and testing. You have to spend countless hours interviewing prospective candidates; this will cost you at least $2,000.00. It typically takes two months for a newly hired person to get into the groove of how you run your processes and procedures, and become accustomed to your patients. Two months salary and benefits will cost at least $5,000.00.

Sponsoring a physical therapist means that you petition a foreign national with USCIS. Specialty occupations such as physical therapy can be sponsored through H1b Visa or green card. It is cheaper to hire a PT directly than to go through expensive recruiters or contracting agencies. You are only required to pay the prevailing wage (contact Department of Labor for more information). Current United States physical therapy graduates with Master’s Degree and Doctorate’s Degree demand more pay. You can require a 2-year contract for the expenses you incurred while sponsoring a therapist for a green card.

The shortage of physical therapists is real. Act now! For as low as $50.00, you can post a physical therapy job for one month. Your physical therapy job will be viewed around the world.
